Tough Loss for Phantoms Away to Kent!

The Phantoms we're brought back down to earth in week 3 when they travelled to the Kent Falcons, in a game where turnovers played a huge role.

James Kocherhans had a couple of interceptions, one of which was returned for a score in the first half, which was then followed by a costly fumble in the 3rd quarter as Brinley Fuller had the ball stripped from him inside of Kent's Redzone.

Another defensive score came in the shape of a fumble recovery for the Falcons, which was followed by a couple of late offensive TDs and a 32-0 win for the home side.

Phantoms Exorcise Demons, Win at Home!

Until this weekend, the Phantoms had never won a game at home, which was something that needed to be sorted quickly!  They got that win with the help of some big offensive play and tough defence against one of their new division rivals, the Royal Holloway Vikings.

Both teams exchanged punts to start the game.  The Phantoms then took the lead on their 2nd possession thanks to a long run from Stefan Hazzell, his 2nd TD of the season.  This lead was quickly added to when James Kocherhans threw the first of his 2 touchdown passes to Nathan Ashby to notch up a 12-0 lead.

The Phantoms defence was holding firm, and after another long pass to Ashby, James Kocherhans barrelled into the endzone on a sneak, followed by a bootleg for the 2 pointer and a 20-0 half time lead.

The Vikings kept fighting and run in a score of their own to make it 20-7.  This was followed up by Nathan Ashby's 2nd TD of the day, after catching a long pass from Kocherhans, he broke free from 3 would be tackles and finally made his way into the end zone.  A late Holloway score made the final result 28-13 for the Phantoms.

The focus now for the Phantoms, is a road fixture against another new division rival the Kent Falcons, who narrowly won the same fixture last season, 8-0.

Phantoms beaten by Tsunami

The 2006/07 season is officially underway, and the Phantoms started out their campaign on the road against the Brighton Tsunami.  Both teams came out fired up, but it was the Phantoms who had the best of the early exchanges.

Brighton recieved the opening kickoff, but quickly fell into a 3 and out situation, the ensuing punt went over the kicker's head and into the end zone for a safety, and a 2-0 lead for the Phantoms.  After recieving the free kick, the Phantoms moved the ball steadily on the ground, and added to their lead when Stefan Hazzell went in on a run from within the red-zone.  The 2 point conversion failed, but the Phantoms lead 8-0.

Brighton responded with a short TD run in the 2nd quarter to make the score 8-6 in favour of the Phantoms.  From there, the game was delayed several times because of injuries players on both teams.  Towards the end of the 1st half, the Phantoms failed on a 4th and inches attempt at mid-field, but with Brighton failed to capitalise, as time ran out on their way towards the end zone.

The 2nd half continued in Brighton's favour, and they soon took the lead with another TD in the 3rd and a 12-8 lead.  Brighton's defence had control of the Phantoms, ending several drives through turnovers on downs and fumbles.  Another rushing score in the 4th quarter ended the game at 18-8.

Several positives have been drawn from this game, especially the play of the rookies, and the Phantoms now focus their attention on getting ready for a week 2 matchup with the Royal Holloway Vikings.

We would like to pass on our best wishes to Brighton's injured player, and we hope he makes a swift recovery.
